Rachel loves to help companies operationalise their high growth strategies and enjoys managing a broad portfolio of issues, both legal and operations. She excels at getting to know and immersing herself in a business so that she can learn quickly, build a strong network of business partners and help companies build their legal function and strategy from the ground up.

For the last 15 years Rachel has worked predominantly in the technology sector including software/ hardware and fintech (on-prem, SaaS/ PaaS/ IaaS), trading platforms and also in life sciences (biotech/genomics), so has a deep knowledge of the broad range of legal, regulatory, compliance and operational issues affecting companies in this space. Having worked across a number of global jurisdictions and in a broad range of organisations Rachel is a brilliant hands-on addition to any business team.

She is a qualified lawyer in UK, New York and Australia. She is also a Certified Information Privacy Professional / Europe (CIPP/E), which is the ‘gold standard’ for privacy professionals, and means she is an expert in European data protection laws and regulations. This, combined with her practical and commercial approach means she’s great at helping companies navigate the legal framework governing collection, storage, processing, sharing, and disclosure of personal data.

Useful to know:

Rachel and her family are keen XC mountain bikers and spend weekends trying to teach Jack, the cocker spaniel, to run along beside and not in the way of the bikes.  Rachel is also a keen hiker and has climbed every volcano in Indonesia, apart from one (Puncak Jaya or Carstensz Pyramid) which remains on her bucket list.

Worked with:

Rachel has worked in-house at Bloomberg, HP, Darktrace, Illumina and Dante Labs and, prior to that, for law firms Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe (Singapore, New York) and Allens (Australia/ Indonesia/ Thailand).

What Rachel's clients say:

Having worked with Rachel over the last several years at both Illumina and Dante, her deep knowledge and understanding of legal, regulatory, compliance and, moreover, operational issues affecting technology companies in the life sciences space has been invaluable. I also appreciate her practical and commercial approach to help the business prioritise what is important and get things done. Rachel is an exceptional leader as you don’t often find a Chief Counsel that knows how to balance strategy, risk, and compliance with operational needs to enable the business to scale and grow.

We’ll set up a cost-effective, efficient legal function for your business. You’ll have an experienced lawyer as your single point of contact who works as part of your operations team.

No duplication and no reinventing the wheel each time. We get to know your business quickly to manage your legal matters effectively and add value. And as your flexible in-house legal function, we can be scaled up or down depending on needs.

We analyse risk and prioritise what’s important, then manage and carry out the day-to-day legal work, all to a set budget. We’ve all worked as in-house lawyers in fast growth companies, so know what you need (and don’t need) to worry about.
