n8n is a fast-growing workflow automation platform that has experienced exceptional growth over the past 12 months, rapidly scaling its commercial operations, expanding its sales team, and establishing its position as a leading tool in one of the fastest growing segments of the enterprise software market.
As n8n scaled, its legal requirements grew in pace and complexity. By the time LegalEdge was engaged, the business was already experiencing the pressures of its first exceptional growth cycle, with legal function needing to keep pace with commercial demand and ensuring the efficiency of the sales process. The company needed agile, commercially minded legal support that could respond at speed to a high-volume sales pipeline, protect the business through robust contract frameworks, and lay the groundwork for an internal legal function as the organisation matured.
LegalEdge was engaged as n8n’s fractional in-house legal partner, providing embedded, responsive support across the full spectrum of commercial legal needs – from day-to-day NDA management through to high-stakes strategic deal work.

THE CHALLENGE
At the outset of the engagement, n8n faced several interrelated legal challenges common to high-growth technology companies:
Volume & Velocity
The sales team was logging deals at pace and needed legal support that could match the speed of a commercial operation without creating bottlenecks, to enable n8n to close the deals. NDAs required fast turnaround without compromising on protection.
Clarity for a Non-Legal Audience
As n8n’s customer base expanded, legal documentation needed to be clear and accessible. Technical legal language risked alienating prospects and slowing deal cycles. The more immediate priority was speed and commercially informed risk assessment. n8n needed legal support that could move quickly, communicate risk in practical business terms, and enable the sales team to maintain momentum without compromising the company’s position.
Building Towards an In-House Function

With the sales team driving a high volume of new commercial relationships, LegalEdge took ownership of NDA management in its entirety. A streamlined, consistent approach ensured deals moved forward without unnecessary friction, while robust protections were maintained throughout.

Beyond NDAs, the LegalEdge team provided legal resource and strategic input across n8n’s most significant commercial transactions. Seven lawyers contributed commercial, practical expertise across deal structures, contract negotiation, risk management, and more – providing n8n’s sales team with the confidence to pursue ambitious deals.
